The Qur'an

The Qur'an: The Qur'an is the word of Allah, revealed to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by the Angel Gabriel. It begins with Surah Al-Fatiha and ends with Surah An-Nas.

  • The first Surah in the Qur'an is Surah Al-Fatiha.
  • The last Surah in the Noble Qur'an is Surah An-Nas.
  • The first verses revealed to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) were from Surah Al-Qalam.

Names of the Qur'an:

Allah, the Almighty, has given the Noble Qur'an several names, including:

الكتاب “Al-Kitab”.

الفرقان "Al-Furqan".

الذكر "Adh-Dhikr".

Names of the Surahs in the Qur'an and their Count:

Allah, the Almighty, revealed the Qur'an to our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in stages; (it was not revealed all at once).

  • Some of its Surahs were revealed in Makkah.
  • Others were revealed in the city of Madinah.

Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) arranged its verses and Surahs under the command of Allah, who preserved it from any alteration or distortion.

  • It consists of 114 Surahs.
  • It is divided into 30 parts.

Each Surah in the Qur'an has a name:

  • Some Surahs are named after the prophets, such as Surah Muhammad, Nuh, Ibrahim, Hud, Yusuf, etc.
  • Some Surahs are named after the Day of Judgment, such as Surah Al-Haqqah, Al-Qiyamah, etc.
  • Others have different names, such as Surah Al-Fil (The Elephant), Al-Ankabut (The Spider), etc.

Compilation of the Qur'an:

  • After the passing of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Qur'an was preserved in the hearts of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and written on parchment, stones, and palm leaves.
  • Later, it was compiled into one Mus'haf (written copy) by hand.
  • In the modern era, the Qur'an was beautifully printed in copies.
  • Then its printing evolved, and it was copied on electronic devices such as computers and mobile phone memory.
